Daily Fresher Jobs, Interview Tips. Ans= (s1*t2 ~ s2*t1) / (t1 ~ t2) which gives 100. So 100 steps is the answer. Meet at 400yards from the other end of the river. Ans:51.25 (conversion A=(7/3)B-70).

Everytime I open a PDF file it opens up in PDF Complete 4.0.9 Special Edition (came pre-installed) at a very high zoom-view (like 274%) and I have to minimize the zoom for EVERY single PDF I open. The font is always too large to read. Is there anyway to set-up the PDF program to open up PDF files at a lower zoom permanently?

Also, I have SumatraPDF which I hate cause the search feature doesn't work. So, please don't suggest using that program. I want to use programs that are fully functional. Also, I'm open to buying PDF editors/readers etc. to solve this problem.

In Adobe Reader you can set this as follows:

Edit Menu, Preferences..

Select the Page Display category

From here you can set the default Zoom. Automatic, Fit Width or 100% are probably the best options to try.

My recommendation is the free Foxit Reader.

This is the fastest PDF reader I know, and Page Display is one of its options in Preferences :

In Adobe Reader you can select to open documents in last zoom level and at last opened page under Documents tab:

Since xpdf is open source, it should be available for windows, too. You can tell it which zoom level to use:

So your starter could include this flag.

I want to use programs that are fully functional.

I don't know what is meant with that. xpdf is very fast, so maybe it isn't.

There are two libraries that support direct conversion to Excel: Apache POI and jExcel.

In addition JasperReports is a higher level reporting library that supports exporting to Excel in addition to PDF, etc.

The real issue is how do you expect to map a free flowing format such as your example to a row and column format like Excel?

If you have a spooled file like

You can save to file your spool. The way I use (hope it helps)..tipically it has only one field and you need to generate the various fields by position.you can produce by query a file like substr(field, 1, 4) for date, substr(field, 6, 4) for time and so on.With java I prefer to use Apache POI, like this.

Simplest for me is a command similar to this:

The Qshell catsplf utility puts a spooled file into STDOUT. In the example above, it's redirected to a streamfile named mysplftxt.spl that has no path, so it goes into the current directory. Since my current directory is mapped to a network drive in my PC, I can then simply open the file in LibreOffice Calc (no need for Excel here).

That's all there is to it.

Well, technically, there is more to it because I created a command I've named CATSPLF that accepts job name, spoolfile name and number, etc., and constructs the Qshell CMD() string for me. That makes it a lot easier to make the request in a number ways like as a registered user function for the WRKSPLF command and elsewhere.

Naturally, there is no definition of 'cells' in the spreadsheet when I do that. That needs to be done manually when I open the file. If 'cells' are needed regularly, there are two general options other than manual: start writing programs to do it or buy a product.

But I rarely see any point in opening a spooled file in Excel (or in Calc or any other spreadsheet program). I wouldn't try similarly to open a spooled file from the Windows spooler (which would be a real nightmare), and I've never heard of anyone else trying to do it either; so I can't figure out why people want to do it so often in the AS/400 line. There are almost always far better ways to get data into a spreadsheet.
